Leor Farms is a mixed livestock farm located in Douro, Ontario. Patrick and Deanna Leahy moved to the farm in 2017, where Patrick is continuing his family tradition of farming – he is the 6th generation to be farming since his ancestors arrived from Ireland. Patrick and Deanna respectfully acknowledge that the farm property is on the treaty and traditional territory of the Mississauga Anishinaabeg. It is important to them to take steps to become allies of Indigenous peoples.
Patrick has been building his beef cattle herd since the age of 13 and has since established both a purebred breeding stock program and a direct-sale (farm to consumer) beef program. Since 2017, Patrick and Deanna have added additional livestock species to the farm.
Patrick partners with his father Bernard Leahy on large scale management of the farm. Bernard has been a local leader and innovator when it comes to implementing sustainable, low-carbon, and locally-focused farm practices (Leahy Stock Farm). Patrick is continuing on in this direction.
Patrick and Deanna look forward to continuing to learn and adapt their farming practices in ways to prioritize animal quality of life and environmental sustainability. Beyond their farm practices, they aim to build community in their interactions with customers and fellow farmers and suppliers, as well as support a wider shift to sustainability in the agriculture industry.
